Sažetak
Cardiac surgery procedures can produce moderate to severe pain. According to the studies uncontrolled acute cardiac surgical pain can lead to postcardiac chronic pain syndrom in about 20% of patients after sternotomy and 25-60% of patients after thoracotomy.(1, 2).Opioid sparing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols are increasingly being in corporated in cardiac operations in contrast to traditional perioperative cardiac surgery pain management which relies on large doses of intravenous opioids. Regional anesthesia in cardiac surgery can beprovided by neuraxial blocks, fascial plane chest wall blocks, peripheral nerve blocks or simply by wound infiltration with local anesthetics (3 )(Picture 1)). Simultaneously with the development of minimally invasive cardiac surgery there is increasing utilization of fascial plane chest wall blocks which are easy to use in everyday practice, have low rate of complications and importantly provide adequate perioperative analgesia.
