Sažetak
This review describes the needs and problems of grown-up congenital heart (GUCH) patients and provides recommendations for medical care organization, education and training of specialists. Advances ill diagnostic methods as well as in surgical and medical care of infants and children with congenital heart disease have resulted in one of the most successful rehabilitation programs that medicine has witnessed. This is why 85% of the children with congenital heart diseases reach adulthood. Owing to excellent diagnostic procedures, cardiac surgery, anesthesiology, intensive care units, rhythmology and cooperation with European cardiac centers, the survival of children with cardiac diseases in Croatia is the same. However appropriate system of care for this group of patients in cooperation with adult cardiologists has not yet been developed. This review may serve as an incentive for the organization of GUCH patient care in our country.
