Sažetak
Vocabulary acquisition is considered to be an important component for both FL and LSP learners. Basically, teaching vocabulary in a general foreign language shouldn’t be different from teaching LSP vocabulary. However, there are some differences and challenges an LSP teacher has to consider. In terms of teaching vocabulary, an LSP teacher needs to focus on the differences between technical, semi-technical and academic vocabulary, and help learners to decide which words are closely connected to their LSP field. Furthermore, an LSP teacher should encourage students to develop an awareness of their strategic approach to LSP vocabulary learning so they can expand their vocabulary learning strategy repertoire and adapt the effective vocabulary strategies to the specific learning needs. The paper lays out the arguments on the importance of teaching LSP vocabulary learning strategies. Examples of productive and receptive LSP vocabulary activities as well as vocabulary learning strategies that could be most effective in LSP vocabulary teaching will be presented. Finally, the paper will reflect on the lesson plan developed for the TRAILs Summer/Winter School organised for LSP teachers and language students as well as on the feedback of the participants in the TRAILSs Summer/Winer School regarding LSP vocabulary teaching.
