Sažetak
Vaginal route of drug administration is commonly used for local delivery of a variety of therapeutic agents, but it can be also used for systemic drug delivery owing to its drug absorption potential as well as the fact that this route avoids the first-pass metabolism. To overcome defficiencies of conventional vaginal formulations, novel drug delivery nanosystems have been proposed and investigated. This chapter provides an overview of various vaginal drug delivery nanosystems such as polymeric nanoparticles, liposomes, niosomes, microemulsions and dedrimers. Their poentials, but also limitations have been critically discussed.
