Sažetak
This chapter provides an overview of the book. Although policing is contextual and local, common themes have emerged across different countries. To capture the complexity and diversity of the issues, the chapter describes the organizing theme of the book and outlines how each chapter fits within this larger frame. Following then President Barak Obama’s 2015 Task Force’s organization into six broad pillars, this book has six sections, focusing on building trust and legitimacy, providing policy and oversight, utilizing technology and social media, developing community policing and crime reduction, providing police training and education, and securing officer wellness and safety. Based on scholarly analyses and discussions of these issues in 16 distinct countries on six continents, the book chapters offer a global perspective on policing in the 21st century.
