Sažetak
The paper presents the procedures and the results of the chemical and metallographic analysis of the barrel material of some artillery weapons: 76 mm field gun, 20 mm anti-aircraft gun and 120 mm mortar. The chemical analysis shows that these are quenched and tempered steels 28NiCrMo55, 32CrMo12 and 36CrNiMo4, which contain from 0.28 to 0.36% of carbon, and they are alloyed with chromium, nickel and molybdenum, i.e. chromium and molybdenum. The metallographic images of the sample cross-sections show a homogeneous structure of the tempered martensite. The measured hardness of the sample ranges from 29 to 33 HRC and is uniformly distributed across the whole cross-section of the sample. For the mentioned steels, this hardness is achieved by hardening from the temperature of about 860°C and high-temperature tempering at 600°C over a period of 2 hours
