Sažetak
This article examines the fate of the Jewish religious community in Zagreb as well as of the Jewish residents remaining in Zagreb after the final large-scale deportations from the so-called Independent State of Croatia (Nezavisna Država Hrvatska - NDH) to concentration camps in May 1943 until the end of the Second World War. The article augments existing Holocaust research in Croatia by using the microhistory approach, distinguishing between the fate of different types of individuals: the pre-war members of the Jewish community, Jews who were outside of these communities as well as those who were categorised as Jewish by racial laws but did not identify themselves as such. Special attention is devoted to exploring identities and analysing survival strategies of Jews married to non- Jews (“mixed marriages”) and their families.
