Sažetak
The surfaces of dental materials must be well treated to achieve smooth and shiny surfaces, which contributes to the aesthetic and functional durability, reducing the accumulation of dental plaque and the increasing the resistance of the material surface to corrosion. The process of the material’s surface treatment implies the process of abrasion, ie wearing of the surface of the material with abrasives whose hardness is higher than the hardness of the object being treated. Abrasives are divided into natural and synthetic. Synthetic abrasives have better physical properties, are cheaper and therefore more common in everyday practice. Abrasives come in a variety of shapes and sizes ; such as diamond, carbide and steel burs for laboratory/extraoral and intraoral use of various shapes and sizes, in the form of stones, wheels, discs and strips. When treating the surfaces of dental materials, it is important to choose the type of abrasive that corresponds to the material being treated, because that way the quality of the treated surface will be significantly higher.
