Sažetak
During the War of the Austrian Succession Baron Francis von der Trenck made a name for himself as an expert of „small war“. Since his first appearance on the battlefields of Upper and Lower Austria and Bavaria the exploits of this famous „partisan“ and his irregular troops were zealously covered by German-, Dutch- and English-language newspapers as Wienerisches Diarium, Staats- und gelehrte Zeitung des Hamburgischen unparteyischen Correspondenten, Franckfurtische Gelehrte Zeitungen, Genealogisch-Historische Nachrichten, Europäischer Staats-Secretarius, Neue Europäische Fama, Oprechte Haerlemse Courant, Amsterdamse Courant, ‘s Gravenhaegse Courant, Leydse Courant, Hollandsche Historische Courant, Geoctrojeerde Groninger Courant, Opregte Nieuwe Groninger Courant, London Gazette, St. James's Evening Post, London Evening Post, Derby Mercury, Newcastle Courant, Caledonian Mercury, Ipswich Journal, Stamford Mercury, Scots Magazine, Pennsylvania Gazette, Pennsylvania Journal or Weekly Advertiser and Weekly New-York Post-Boy. This raises the following questions: When did these newspapers mention Trenck and his Pandours for the first time? How often were they mentioned in the newspapers? How fast did news reports about them travel? What did the newspapers report about? How accurate was war reporting and were there differences/similarities between the newspapers?
