Dental Ceramics
Sažetak
Dental ceramics are inorganic materials composed of metallic and non-metallic elements connected by an ionic and/or covalent bond. Due to their good mechanical and optical properties, they are the main constructive materials in fixed prosthodontics. Conventional dental ceramics are basically cerammed glass based on quartz and a network of potassium and/or sodium clay. Modern ceramics are crystalline structures. Ceramics are used in dental medicine to fabricate crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers, tripartite and multi-unit bridges, intraradicular posts, and implants. They can be divided according to different criteria ; purpose, indications, composition, techniques of restoration manufacturing, microstructure, properties and temperature of firing. The preparation of ceramics is performed through several stages ; shaping, drying, sintering, and glazing. The type of ceramic material dictates the method of fabrication of the restoration to manual condensation, hot-pressed procedure, infiltration, and machining.
