Sažetak
Basic identification data about monthly journal Glazbeni i kazališni vjesnik [Musical and Theatrical Herald], which in 1905 for absence of theatrical news changed its title into Glazbeni vjesnik [Musical Herald], were the following. On the 31st January, 1904 the head then of the singing society Jadranska vila in Sušak Andro Mitrović initiated the publishing of the first Croatian standard music periodical in the 20th century. In 1904 that monthly journal was published in Rijeka/Sušak and printed in Sušak. First four issues in 1905 were still edited by A. Mitrović, but then Franjo Dugan became the editor and the journal continued to be published in Zagreb. However, Dugan edited only the following double issue 6-7. After that the journal was not published almost for a year. Then A. Mitrović became again the editor and with financial support of Matica hrvatska [Matrix Croatica] the journal continued to be issued. In 1907 some changes were made again: the editor became Stanislav Stražnicki and the publisher Knjižara u korist kluba Ćirilometodskih zidara /Šimunić i drug/ u Zagrebu. However, after only three issues Glazbeni vjesnik finally died out. In the journal editorial to the first issue the basic approach had already been displayed: information on recent events, on the one hand, and on the protection of musicians' and theater artists' rights, on the other hand. Both remained the journal's permanent characteristic. Besides various sketches, news from domestic and foreign musical life, in Glazbeni i kazališni vjesnik numerous other subjects ; from ethnomusicological, musical-pedagogical, aesthetic and even sociological, to musical criticism and reviews of music editions were introduced. Musical-historiographic contributions appear very rarely, mostly on the occasions in the form of short informative reviews. At the present moment Glazbeni i kazališni vjesnik in the first place offers numerous relevant data to the researchers of Croatian musical past in the broadest sense.
