Sažetak
The final essay in the volume, titled “The Pretense Veil of Christian Vulgarism: Ethno- religious Wraith in Contemporary Secular Society, ” written by Branko Sekulić, deals with the issue of the intertwining of religious, political, and ethnic matters, summed up by the author in a catch-all term: ethno-religionism. In his interpretation of Moltmann’s central insights into the potential for the political liberation of an individual, including liberation of religious communities and the church from politics, the author warns that, in our context, the church no longer seems to provide an authentic meaning of a single faith-worshipping context, but rather a primitive mask laden with interests of highly- charged politicking, while its main impetus, instead of being an eschatological dimension of hope of the living God, is now reduced to the incessant digging up and over the burial grounds of the crucified one. For the church, his materialization marks the end of mythological manipulations whereupon it builds its foundations in the context of ethnic differentiation. To such church, the author argues, the cross is good enough only as a symbol scribbled on tombstones, and in no way as a symbol of resurrection and an urgent need for radical spiritual challenges. Thus the church in this variant comes out as an apparition only to be accessed by way of certain pathological theological instruments. As a result, in order for it to realize its existence in the context of Christ’s message of the fight for life, it should first of all get out of his grave and grant that he is alive indeed.
