Sažetak
Aim: To assess the value of direct endometrial sampling cytology using Tao BrushTM.Methods:In 53 women (aged 36–81) direct endometrial sampling was indicated using Tao BrushTM. First, smears (‡) were made byTao BrushTM directly on slides while the rest of the sample wasrinsed in vial containing fixative solution (CytolytÒ ; Cytyc, Co) fol-lowing to cytocentrifugation with‡2 sediments (Sakura, Cyto-tek, Japan). Modified May-Gru ̈nwald- Giemsa and Papanicolaou stain method were performed. Cellularity was analysed comparing directand sediment slides. Cytological findings were divided in four categories: benign, hyperplastic without and with atypia (HA) andmalignant. Results: There were 7.5% inadequate cytological samples. Sediment slides had same or better (26%) cellularity. The majority of cytological findings were benign (73.5%) following hyperplastic without (12.2%) and with atypia (8.2%) and malignant (6.1%). In20 patients (40.8%) cervical dilatation and curettage (D&C) was indicated and hysterectomy (2) was performed consequently. How-ever, 30% of D&C samples were insufficient for pathohistologic assessment. All patients with HA or malignant cytology had D&C. In patients with HA cytology polyps (2), atypical cells (1) or insufficient tissue (1) were found, while in those with malignant cytology, mixed endometrial carcinoma (1) was verified. Other 2 D&C samples were insufficient for pathohistolologic assessment, although, colon carcinoma was diagnosed previously in open sur- gery, and adenocarcinoma of unknown origin by lymph nodebiopsy, respectively. Conclusion: Using Tao Brush as direct uterine sampling method is accurate and safe, without significant discomfort to the patient, enabling early detection, therapeutic monitoring or screening among selected (at risk) outpatient women
