Sažetak
Cement production accounts for about 7% of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere. One way to reduce this impact is to combine techniques to produce environmentally sustainable mixtures, such as significantly lowering the amount of binder and partially replacing the cement within the binder with mineral admixtures. The objective of this work was to develop a high-performance concrete with low cement content using locally available limestone and clay. In the first phase of the experimental study, six control mixes with different cement contents were investigated and the optimum binder content was determined based on their compressive strength and workability. In the second phase, the concrete with calcined clay-limestone with the same binder content was developed and its properties were compared with those of the reference concrete and the concrete with fly ash- limestone. To understand the chloride penetration resistance, the non-steady state chloride migration coefficient was determined condition according to the method NT BUILD 492. After 28 days, the combination of fly ash and limestone performed better of all the mixes in terms of compressive strength and chloride penetration resistance. Nevertheless, the limestone-calcined clay-based mix performed comparably to the control mix, suggesting that locally available clay with low kaolinite content could be used for the development of high-performance concrete.
