Sažetak
Several studies observed improvement of quality of life (QoL) in terms of improvement in dietary behaviour in adults. The aim of this study was to observe the diet quality before and after the summer in the staff of the Children's Hospital Zagreb based on the change in QoL. The study was conducted on staff of the Children's Hospital Zagreb (N=44 ; 82% women) aged 25-62 years. Overall diet quality was estimated using the Nutrient Rich Food Index 9.3 (NRF9.3) from two 24- hour dietary recalls. QoL was estimated using the World Health Organisation self-rated QoL questionnaire. For the analysis, participants were divided into 3 groups according to the changes in QoL values between 2 measurements (June and September 2021): (1) < -1.5% (27%) ; (2) -1.5-1.5% (34%) ; (3) > 1.5% (39%). To assess differences in diet quality between participants, a two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures was performed to compare pre- and post-summer changes in all three participant groups. Overall, the study sample had an NRF9.3 score of 22.32 (13.95- 32.87) pre- and 23.26 (12.72-30.16) post-summer. Average daily energy intake varied between 1400 kcal pre- and 1223 kcal post-summer, of which an average of 18% came from protein, 47% from carbohydrate, and 35% from fat in both cases. There were no significant changes in the overall diet quality in all 3 groups of participants pre- and post-summer. Adherence to energy, macronutrient, and micronutrient recommendations also showed no significant change pre- and post- summer, except for iron, which was significantly higher (p=0.016) in all 3 groups of participants before summer (mean 47-48%) than after summer (mean 39-52%). In summary, there was no significant difference between diet quality in relation to self-rated QoL before and after summer, which could be due to the short period between the two assessments.
