Sažetak
The textile dyeing and finishing industry creates a huge water pollution problem. One of the most commonly used method for dye removal from textile wastewaters is adsorption. Since it highly depends on the nature between adsorbent and adsorbate, in this paper removing of Reactive Black 5 dyestuff (RB5) by cationized cotton was researched. Cotton fabric was cationized with 3-chloro-2- hydroxypropyl-trimethylammonium chloride (CHPTAC) and then used as a model adsorbent. The 50 ppm RB5 solution of pH 6 and pH 10, without or with addition of NaCl were use as adsorbate. The adsorption ability was determined from RB5 solution before and after adsorption. The colour depth (K/S) of fabrics before and after RB5 removal was also described. The best results were achieved at pH 10 without adding any salt. Adding of NaCl into the RB5 solution negatively affects on removing of dye. The higher concentration of salt was added, the lower adsorption occurred. Removed RB5 from solutions correlates to the colour strength of fabrics after adsorption.
