Sažetak
Fly ash is a product of solid fuel combustion sampled in a biomass power plant in Croatia. Different digestion techniques of fly ash were tested ; microwave and ultrasound digestion, with variations of solvent volume, digestion time, temperature, power of microwave ovens and ultrasound bath, and one- and two-step digestion methods, in order to achieve effective and rapid digestion of fly ash samples and standards. The study was carried out by analyzing solutions gained by digestion. Determinations were performed by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), and trace metals (Mg, Mn, Na, Ca, Fe, Al and Si) were measured. [1, 2] The best method was determined by comparing the efficiency of different digestion methods. The efficiency of all digestion methods was evaluated using certified reference materials from coal ash with various content of oxides ; GSJ JR-3 (Geochemical Reference Sample) and GSJ JSy-1. The research has shown that the two-step ultrasound digestion with aqua regia and HF gives the best results for the destruction of the fly ash matrix and gives the solution of before mentioned metals. Operating conditions of the method are ; 1. step: 2 mL HNO3, 6 mL HCl, 3 mL HF, 0.3 g ash sample, the mixture was left overnight (80 °C, 30 min, 1200 W), 2 step: 10 mL H3BO3 (1200 W, 80 °C, 25 minutes). The best conditions of microwave digestion were in a two-step microwave method with hydrofluoric acid ; 1. step: 0.2 g of ash sample, 1.5 mL HNO3, 1.5 mL of H2O2 and 1 mL HF (600 W, 800 psi, 210 °C, 30 minutes), 2. step: 10 mL H3BO3 (600 W, 800 psi, 170 °C, 25 minutes).
