Sažetak
The blood-brain barrier (BBB) protects the brain from toxic substances but also blocks the entry of many drugs into brain. Thus, brain specific drug delivery is one of the most challenging areas of research, such as therapy for Parkinson's disease. This research aimed to develop more efficient drug delivery system for Parkinson's disease based on selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs). SeNPs display lot of features that make them suitable for drug delivery system as simple preparation, antioxidant activity and neuroprotective effects. We prepared SeNPs functionalized with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polysorbate 20 (Tween 20) and tested their delivery efficacy using L-3, 4- diydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) as model drug.
