Sažetak
The island of Rab is situated in the nothern part of Adriatic see. The fingerprints from 548 (225 male and 323 female) inhabitants were taken and qualitative dermatoglyphic traits were analyzed from the population of six villages of the examined island. We analyzed frequencies of patterns (whorls, loops and arches) on ingers and on palms frequencies of patterns in the interdigital areas, Thenar and Hypothenar. We also determined the position of the axial triradius "t". The statistical analysis was performed by using Chi-square test and Hiernaux D g biological distances. The results of this study show that there is diversity among the village populations and also the variability in females in comparison to the males. This variability found in the population from the island of Rab can be explained by the microevolutionary factors through endogamy and the way of migrational flow on the island in course of the history.
