Sažetak
Through the characters of jesters and 'make-believers' the novels Tyll by Daniel Kehlmann and Mladenka Kostonga by Želimir Periš pose many interesting questions, one of them being the relation of knowledge and power. The texts are particularly relevant contribution to the contemporary relations dynamic between knowledge and science, whereas the pandemic context can serve as an indicator or situation in which the same problem most often manifests. The plot in these novels takes place in the seventeenth and nineteenth century and thematizes the knowledge contaminated with power relations, which is something we can relate to and use it to exemplify our present, more complex, circumstances. Knowledge is defined through the set of social constructs, currently existing hierarchies, ideologically privileged positions – all of which are the reasons why we had to dethrone the concept of truth and start understanding it as a result of social power ratio. Even though these relations may be hard to distinguish in the contemporary conditions of multiplicated relations and positions, Kehlmann and Periš are both insightful on the same matter, even though the context of seventeenth and nineteenth century implies somewhat simplified circumstances. This paper uses these advantages of the novels to clear off the position of knowledge, mostly through Michel Foucault’s perspective.
