Sažetak
In turbulent times following the Great War, dissolution of ancient Empires for many European nations was an opportunity for the creation of their national states. For Germany and other defeated states this meant not just a loss of territory, but also that parts of their ethnical population were now members of minority in foreign states. Afraid of the peace treaties refusal, the Great Powers in Paris promoted legal standardisation and a general system of minorities protection which could strengthen the peace in Europe. At the Conference, political autonomy as a viable solution for achieving protection was generally disregarded. The safe-guarding of specific protective standards incorporated in the Peace and Minority treaties was assigned to the League of Nations. However, despite guaranties by the League, the absence of universal protection and lack of compulsory legal mechanism soon underlined dysfunctionality of the protective system.
