Sažetak
Digital technology has introduced changes and altered the procurement practice in the most significant way since its conception. Preparing for a healthcare system-wide transition to digital procurement involves strategic, organizational, technological, and financial preparation. Significant benefits of digital procurement for Croatia's healthcare sector could be found using economies of scale through procurement centralization. Considering the complexity of the Croatian healthcare environment, a reasonably promising starting strategy when transitioning to digital procurement could be to start with the public hospitals, regardless of whether the central or local government owns them. Furthermore, creating a central procurement agency for the public hospital system could materialize effectiveness, efficiency, and supply chain resilience benefits. This way, procurement excellence regarding categories, teams, and suppliers could be achieved much faster under one rooftop without coping with problems and challenges that multiply with the number of hospitals.
