Sažetak
The article presents the development of Memory Studies in Croatia, focusing on texts and books that contributed to this phenomenon and appeared as its result. It also deals with the study of the history of the socialist period and the politics of history before, and especially after Croatian independence. Emphasis has been put on the transformation that took place at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s as far as the official politics of history, national symbols, holidays and dominant narrative are concerned, which has gained nationalist features and was largely based on criticism of the previous period. Consequently, when collective memory is concerned, Croatian society is still divided into two parts that can hardly communicate with each other.
