Sažetak
For the last few decades, pharmaceuticals have been detected frequently in wastewater but also in the natural water, therefore they pose a certain risk to an environment and its fauna and flora. Many novel methods have been proposed as a solution for this problem. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have grown a lot of attention because by-products of lower toxicity and higher biodegradability can be formed by the degradation parent pollutant, while even complete mineralisation of the present organic content can be achieved. Accordingly, the aim of the study was to provide an insight on memantine treatment by two most common photo-based AOPs, UV-C/H2O2 (photooxidation) and UV-A/TiO2 (photocatalysis), and to establish the degradation levels and environmental aspects of such treatments. Therefore, influence of key process parameters as well as the kinetics of degradation and mineralization along with water matrix constituents’ influence were investigated.
