Sažetak
Coke industry is considered a major polluter of the environment. It discharges large amount of wastewater of complex composition which contains high concentrations of organic matter, suspended particles, ammonia, phenol, cyanide and thiocyanate and as such is toxic and harmful. In order for such wastewater to be discharged into natural water bodies, in accordance with the Law, it is necessary to treat it with a combination of different procedures, due to its complexicity. In this study, coking wastewater was subjected to various processes (coagulation with flocculation, oxidation, advanced oxidation, ozone), after two-stage biological treatment. The best results were obtained by treating the wastewater through coagulation process (100 mg Fe3+/L), followed by oxidation with free chlorine (10 mg Cl2/L). Concentrations of phenol, cyanide, thiocyanate, ammonia and COD value were respectively: 0.38 mg/L, 0.23 mg/L, 0.11 mg/L, 2.58 mg/L and 123 mg O2/L.
