Sažetak
The topic of this paper is the student’s work on the integration of ABB IRB120 robots into an automated environment, supervised by a mentor. This has required a simulation of the actual industrial environment, conditions and problems using an industrial robot (IRB120) with a controller (IRC5), which were available to mechatronics students in the laboratory of University North. First, the pneumatic equipment used to test the operation of the developed model is described: a semi-rotary drive used as a rotary table, a pneumatic gripper, pneumatic valves, and a service unit without lubricator. Then, the electrical parts necessary for the application of the robot to control the model are listed: optical sensors, electrical gripper. Finally, mechanical parts: the sliding track, parts for the rotary table, robot fingers and other work pieces were designed and produced. SolidWorks, a commonly used 3D CAD tool, was used to design an environment around the robot. After the design phase, the environment was created. Real industrial components, together with the products made with the help of 3D printers, were integrated. Finally, the process of how the robot was programmed and tested by the student during his final exam is presented here. This paper shows how students can incorporate different areas of industry and the courses they attend during their mechatronics studies at the University North (robotics, automation of machines and devices, pneumatics and hydraulics, 3D design, sensors). Most importantly, models made in this way are later on used as teaching tools during regular classes with the next generation of students. This allows students to associate theoretical explanations with practical work on industrial equipment, which is extremely important in the STEM field.
