Sažetak
Background and Aim: There are many treatment and preventionmodalities for Periimplant diseases. One of the preventive options isthe use microgap sealing and antimicrobial materials to decontaminatethe implant–abutment interface, and in this manner to prevent bac-terial colonization and its influence on periimplantitis. The aim of this research is to investigate the antimicrobial and sealingeffect of different microgap sealing materials on dental implant-abutment interface contaminated with anaerobic bacteria and fungi. Methods: For this research, we have used 100 titanium dentalimplants and 100 prosthetic abutments, two large groups of50 implants were formed in each depending on the type of implant- abutment connection. All implant/abutment assemblies were put in abacterial solution (0.3 ml) withStaphylococcus aureus and Candididaalbicans for 14 days. After disassembling of the specimens, the innersurfaces of the implants were sampled by sterile paper points for bac-terial contamination. Cultures were done on blood agar plates andincubated at 37 C for 24 h. Microbiological and statisticall analysisABSTRACT273 were done to evaluate the antimicrobial and sealing effect of eachgroup compared to the control groups and expressed as the percent-age of bacterial reduction compared to the control groups. Results: With regard to Staphylococcus spp. infection when compar-ing Gap seal with negative control (using statistical significance of 5%)on whole sample (both zimmer and gc implantant) there is statisticaldifference in data, and in all other cases we cannot reject null hyp-otesis that two samples are not different. Similarly with regard Can-dida spp infection, Gap seal with negative on whole sample there isstatistical difference in data, and in all other cases we cannot rejectnull hypotesis that two samples are not different. Conclusions: With regard to Staphylococcus spp. and Candida spp.infection when comparing Gap seal with negative control there is sta-tistical difference in data.
