Sažetak
The reaction of Na optically excited into the 3 2P state with the HF(X 1Σ+) molecule has been investigated in a crossed-beam experiment with collision energies from 0.14 to 1.1 eV. Angularly resolved velocity distributions of the NaF(X 1Σ+) reaction product have been determined by the time-of-flight technique using a pseudorandom light chopper. The double-differential center-of-mass cross section shows forward scattering (in the direction of the sodium beam). It changes with the collision energy by increasing contributions in the backward direction. The relative amount of the internal energy of the NaF is found to increase with increasing collision energy. We have estimated the total cross section of the reaction to be about 1–2 Å2 in the energy range given above. The reaction path is discussed in terms of the expected qualitative potential energy surfaces and their symmetry properties.
