Sažetak
On December 28th 2020, the M5.0 earthquake with epicenter in the vicinity of the town of Petrinja hit the NW area of Croatia. What was initially considered the mainshock, the day after was revealed to be just a foreshock of the earthquake's series mainshock. The seismic strong shaking M6.4 started on December 29th 2020 at 11:19 UTC with the epicenter 6 km away from the center of Petrinja. The seismic surge was so strong that the shaking was felt by humans at distances more than 500 km away from the epicenter. Unfortunately, the earthquake caused several human casualties and huge damage on buildings and infrastructure. In the town of Sisak, some 14 km away from the M6.4 epicenter is located the permanent GNSS station being part of CROPOS network. The M5.0 earthquake of December 28th caused just kinematic movements, whereas the M6.4 mainshock cause a strong shaking along with the co-seismic permanent horizontal displacement and vertical subsidence. The effects of the mainshock were assessed from additional stations in the area covered by CROPOS network.
