Sažetak
Since the last decades of the 20th century, many new technologies and procedures have been introduced, transforming and improving healthcare and benefitting patients. Over the years, these exciting processes continued. Recently, the COVID- 19 pandemic facilitated this transformation and accelerated the future of medicine. Over time, a fifth P was added to the classical 4P principles of medicine and healthcare (personalized, predictive, preventive and participatory), standing for pertinence. The most challenging issue will probably be how to shape a more equitable future of medicine. It turns out that future medicine will be as strong as its weakest link. Precision medicine has the potential to overcome the limitations of traditional medicine by shifting the focus from reaction to prevention. However, integrating precision medicine into healthcare is quite a complex and challenging process. Regenerative medicine treatment approaches have the potential to provide durable relief and, in some cases, even curative outcomes. With its enormous potential, it is poised to improve and significantly influence healthcare and technology trends in the future. With the population getting older, we become more susceptible to age- related health problems. It is what boosted the development of anti-aging medicine. However, interventions meant to lengthen life bear enormous ethical concerns and cultural factors need to be taken into account. The Human Genome Project has changed the game of genetic tests, genetic counselling and gene therapy. Gene therapies are expected to come forward as a treatment option for a variety of diseases. Hopes of developing a one-time treatment for devastating genetic diseases hold great promise, but they still bring significant medical risks and ethical concerns. The future of medicine and healthcare is taking shape in front of our very eyes, together with the digital transformation of society and our way of living. In medicine and healthcare, digital technology could help transform unsustainable healthcare systems into sustainable ones, equalizing the relationship between medical professionals and patients, which is more challenging than ever, to provide cheaper, faster and more effective solutions for diseases and simply lead to healthier individuals living in healthier communities. The pathways of medicine are more than ever challenging, promising and exciting at the same time. Mutual effort, trust, efficient communication and cooperation among all relevant stakeholders, especially patients and the general healthy population, are necessary for the successful implementation of technical advancements into routine healthcare, to be accessible worldwide, no matter the level of societal development and economic power.
