Sažetak
Previous studies assessing the relationship between religiosity and sexual satisfaction have reported mixed results. Furthermore, they are limited by low sample sizes, use of convenience samples, and their investigation of specific aspects of religiosity. Therefore, this study included three dimensions of religiosity: religious upbringing, personal faith, and church attendance. Based on the previous literature, suggesting that religiosity is positively related to sexual double standard, and negatively related to sexual self-efficacy, we also assessed if the target relationship between religiosity and sexual satisfaction changes with the inclusion of these two constructs. Data were collected online in December 2021. We used a national sample of 749 heterosexual Croatian adults aged 18 to 25 years (M = 22.0, SD = 2.12 ; 52.2% women) who have been sexually active in the year before the survey. The multivariable analyses suggested a consistent positive, albeit rather small relationship between all three aspects of religiosity (religious upbringing, personal faith, and church attendance) and sexual satisfaction. As it was recently suggested in the literature, the positive effect of religiosity on sexual satisfaction may be part of the generally positive effect of religiosity on the overall wellbeing.
