Sažetak
In this study, screening of bacteria and fungi isolated from activated sludge, compost and sediment was performed. After morphological and biochemical characterization, eight bacteria, Bacillus sonorensis, Lysinibacillus massiliensis, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus indicus, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus cereus and Pseudomonas alcaligenes, five molds, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus niger, Trichoderma sp., Rhizopus sp., Penicillium sp. and Alternaria sp., and one yeast Candida parapsilosis were identified. Different types of polymeric materials (low density polyethylene, low density polyethylene + thermoplastic starch, low density polyethylene + thermoplastic starch + styrene-ethylene-styrene and thermoplastic starch) were added to the three mentioned media and the biodegradation of these polymeric materials was studied. The biodegradation process showed that the microorganisms present in these media were able to degrade the polymers as shown by weight loss, SEM and FTIR analysis. TPS (thermoplastic starch) was completely degraded in both activated sludge and compost. The highest weight loss (3.29%) for LDPE (low density polyethylene) films was observed in the compost with the addition of glucose.
