Sažetak
Parenzana is a former railway in Istria that connected Poreč and the places of north western Istria with Trieste. The significance of the construction of this railway in time at early 20th century was very great. The railway contributed to the revival of the activities of the areas through which it passed, as it connected the economic functions of space (agriculture, industry and trade), and at the same time enabled the transport of people and goods. The authors analyse the importance, role and benefits of Parenzana during past time, especially its impact on the development of various activities in the environment. Furthermore, the reasons for the cancellation are analysed. The newest projects aimed to the reconstruction of the route with a completely different function, are explained. The emphasis is on preserving the Parenzana route and today visible forms of bridges, viaducts, tunnels, buildings and more. The paper contains an overview and results of the Parenzana revitalization project, as important cultural, infrastructural and tourist attractions of Istria and beyond.
