Sažetak
Therapeutic options in rheumatology have tremendously evolved over the last 2 decades owing to the development of biological drugs, agents targeted at distinct molecules involved in inflammation and the immune response. The aim of this chapter is to provide the nonrheumatologist working in the surgical setting with an overview of the currently available antirheumatic medications, including nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, glucocorticoids, and a broad range of biological and nonbiological immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory agents. This review attempts to summarize practically relevant data on the use of each drug/drug class, with a focus on general and perioperative safety. Additional emphasis is placed on the available evidence on the risk of infections and impaired wound healing, as well as the optimal approach to drug management in the perioperative setting.
