Sažetak
The glasshouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood), is a harmful polyphagous pest in Croatia, particularly in greenhouse plant production. The excessive use of insecticide has globally caused the development of T. vaporariorum resistance to several classes of insecticides. Therefore, the aim of the study was to test the susceptibility of Croatian T. vaporariorum populations to insecticides. Pest populations were collected from plants cultivated in greenhouses in the coastal part of the country, from Zadar (44°05’52.9”N, 15°15’39.1”E) to Konavle (42°35’16.6”N, 18°13’45.5”E), during 2018 and 2019. Sensitivity tests were conducted under laboratory conditions, and a total of 20 populations were tested. In 2018, pest sensitivity was tested for the active ingredients: alpha- cypermethrin, deltamethrin, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam. The same active ingredients were used in 2019 except that deltamethrin was replaced by another pyrethroid lambda-cyhalothrin. In 2018, all T. vaporariorum populations were resistant to alfa-cipermetrin, while nine of 10 populations were resistant to deltamethrin and one (Kaštel Štafilić) was susceptible. To imidacloprid, one population (Metković) was highly susceptible, while five populations (Sv. Filip i Jakov, Turanj, Split-Duilovo, Podstrana and Imotski) were susceptible. Population from Imotski was also susceptible to thiamethoxam. Similarly, in 2019, all populations were resistant to alpha- cypermethrin, and lambda-cyhalothrin. To imidacloprid, two populations (Turanj and Kastel Lukšić) were highly susceptible, while five populations (Zadar, Split-Žnjan, Metković, Prud, and Cavtat-Obod) were susceptible. Only one population (Split-Žnjan) was susceptible to thiamethoxam. The results indicated the lowest efficacy of used insecticides for control of T. vaporariorum and the necessity of using an integrated pest management strategy against this pest in order to reduce its resistance to insecticides.
