Sažetak
Immunization of newly hatched commercial turkeys against Newcastle disease (ND) using La Sota virus has not been successfully performed so far. Live vaccines are usually used starting from age of two weeks, when maternal antibodies are already metabolised or excreted. In the present investigation one newly hatched commercial hybrid Nicholas 700 turkey poults were vaccinated using Pestikal&reg ; SPF LaSota, "Pliva", Zagreb, Croatia. One vial (1000 doses) was diluted in 100 ml of distilled water. The vaccine was applied by aerosol using Ultrasonic nebulizer (Sonovac&reg ; 095) as described by Štimac & Mazija (1995). The particles sizes were ranged between 2-5 microns (Table 1). Ten poults of groups A, and B as well as 5 birds of group C were challenged i/m with 106 EID50/ bird using Hertz 33 strain at day 28. Blood samples were collected at day 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 38 and examined serologically using haemagglutination inhibition test (HI). No clinical reactions after 60 or 300 seconds of exposure to aerosol of vaccine up till the time of challenge. Five days after challenge 2 birds of group A and at day 8 post challenge 1 bird were died respectively. In non- vaccinated group C 4 out 5 challenged birds were died. The obtained serological results are shown in table 2. In conclusion, the used vaccination method is safe provided good protection and seems to be a promising mode of vaccination against Newcastle disease in turkey flocks.
