Sažetak
The frequency of Salmonella isolation and the finding of different serovars in poultry within 1986 to 1994 period are described. A total of 4. 039 isolates belonging to 53 serovars were found. In 1986 most of the isolates occurred (788) while during 1992 only 186. This show that the number of isolates decreased over this period of time. In the last two years (1993- 1994) the number of Salmonella isolates was relatively stable when 461 and 455 respectively isolation were made. However, the number of serovars increased. The most frequent isolates were: S. enteritidis (1726 strains), S. wirchow (968 strains) and S. typhimurium (626 strains). Because of the possibility of infection in humans this is a very significant finding. There were isolates of S. gallinarum- pullorum while other serovars occurred less frequently. A comprehensive control program for Salmonella in Croatia is established in 1992. It comprise the control of feed, hatcheries, poultry breeding units and slaughters. A significant reduction of harmful consequence caused by Salmonella infections in both poultry and humans is expected.
