Sažetak
Background: So far, there were no continuous and widespread educational efforts on violence among school aged children. Only 8 elementary schools in our county conducted UNICEF programme „Stop violence among children“ on voluntary basis. As of this year, health education programme, with violence prevention module, is being implemented in our school system. Aim: To estimate the prevalence of violent behaviour among schoolchildren in our county. Methods: In the year 2012., we conducted a cross- sectional study among 1301 pupils in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades of 16 elementary schools, in all towns of our county. We used The school bullying questionnaire – USN 2003 (authors: Buljan Flander, Karlovic, Stimac) which was modified version of the Bully/Victim Questionnaire made by Dan Olweus. Results: Almost 60% of pupils experienced some form of violence in schools or inflicted violence upon others. Most frequent forms of victimization and bullying were: gossip, insults, shoving, and social exclusion. Less frequent forms of victimization or bullying were: theft, extortion, beating, threats and improper touching. When children seek help, they mostly confide to their parents and friends, rarely to their teachers. The situation after that changed to better in 43, 5% of cases, while almost 10% (n=128) of the children continued to be bullyied. Conclusions: These results were obtained on a sample representative for our county. They indicate the necessity of education for all parties involved (pupils, teachers, parents).
