Sažetak
Belgrade decided to settle in the area of the left bank of the Sava River in accordance with the Urban Plan of New Belgrade in order to satisfy increased housing needs in the 60s of the last century. At the level of the plan, especially at the level of the realization of New Belgrade at the beginning of the 80 's, several errors were identified as crucial for the quality assessment: interruption of the connection between the new town and the old town, interruption of the appropriate urban structure (physical and functional) at the position of the bank of the Sava River , interruption in the positioning of central functions on the direction of the development axis Belgrade - New Belgrade- Zemun and the interruption caused by the replacement of the traditional urban form by a functionalist one. The functionalist city after the model "architecture in nature" is characterized by the dominance of the open space over the elements of the fullness. It was only a matter of time when the dominant gap would be recognized as a real estate resource and the "repair" of the city as an instrument of implementation. The "repair" of the city by replacing the functionalist forms with the alternative ones is from our point of view unacceptable and we welcome the proclamation of the international architecture of a part of the central zone in New Belgrade for the purpose of housing protected by immovable cultural heritage. We believe that in this way the functionalist concept of an "ideal" city as a one-time witness and a certain urban practice was amnestied. In doing so, the amnesty does not point to the "advantages" of the functionalist city, but merely to the promotion of its preservation.
