Sažetak
Despite many recent advances in spectroscopy and supramolecular chemistry, the challenge to delve into the nature of forces acting during self-organization of molecules still remains an important area of interest for physicists and chemists alike [1]. An attractive medium for this type of studies is an ultra-cold helium environment that can serve as a host matrix for added molecules in order to obtain their self-organized structures. The resulting supramolecular clusters are held together by non-covalent interactions and can form either inside or on the surface of helium nanodroplets (HNDs). The advantage of this technique lies in the medium's ability to stabilize otherwise unstable conglomerates, thus enabling exploration of subtle interactions between atoms and molecules in a practically undisturbed environment with the help of modern spectroscopic techniques. As a continuation of our joint ongoing research in this field [2], it was our goal to generate, identify and characterize supramolecular structures formed by various diamantane acid, alcohol and ether derivatives in HNDs (Picture 1). This series of diamantane derivatives gives us the opportunity to evaluate the influence of both London dispersion (LD) and hydrogen bond (HB) interaction on the cluster formation and composition.
