Sažetak
His study presents oxygen (δ18O) and carbon (δ13C) stable isotope records of two U-Th dated stalagmites from Mljet Island caves in the southern part of Croatian Adriatic. Speleothem MSM-1 from Mala špilja Cave recorded environmental changes during Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5 (119- 101 ka and 91–81 ka BP), MIS 4 (60–54 ka BP), MIS 3 (43–35 ka BP). Short interval (18–13.5 ka BP) during the Last Glacial Maximum (MIS 2) is recorded in stalagmite VSM-1 from Velika špilja Cave. δ18O and δ13C profiles display main climatic oscillations correlated within the age uncertainty with stadial–interstadial events recorded in North Greenland ice core (NGRIP) such as Dansgaard- Oeschger (DO) (25, 24, 17, 16, 15, 11, 10, 9, 8 and 7) and Heinrich event (HE) 1 revealing their impact on the paleoenvironmental conditions in the region of Croatian Eastern Adriatic. Deposition hiatuses occurred during periods of very low δ18O recorded in NGRIP ice core, indicating the adverse effect of cold (dry) conditions on speleothem deposition.
