Sažetak
Maja Buždon was the sole female camp commander in the whole of Europe during the World War II and is among a few unresearched high ranking ustasha officers. After joining the Ustasha movement in 1942, she has been appointed to duty in the Stara Gradiška death camp where soon afterwards she became the camp commander and held that position until the end of the war in 1945. Camp survivors testified the atrocities and crimes she had committed in Stara Gradiška. In Nazi Germany camp commanders were always men, even in the camps for women and children. Thus, the question rises is it possible to draw a comparison between her and men in German camps who were appointed to commander's duty, since their duties were possibly similar. This doctoral project includes all the camp personnel linked to Maja Buždon's biography. In order to represent a broader picture of her duty and behaviour, several of her crimes have been listed as examples. Research methodology is based on implementing the analytical research on evil and violence. Attention is payed to the critical approach of examining the archival material.
