Sažetak
The aim of the presentation is to consider contemporary poetic practices in relation to the Christian continuity of Croatian children's prose and how the Christian element is realized in contemporary Croatian children's war prose (this refers to children's prose whose main motif is the Homeland War (1991-1995)). The establishment of an independent state focused the interest of authors on a long-disputed topics, such as the subject of Christianity. The revitalization of the Christian element, considering its long repression, can be seen as a kind of novelty on the one hand, or as a continuation of the interrupted continuity, on the other hand. Although children's literature approached Christianity in different ways according to the period in which it was created, this diversity can be seen as the confirmation of continuity of Christian motifs within the Croatian children's literature. The presentation is divided in two (2) parts. The first part is about the historical development of Christian motifs within the Croatian children's literature. The second part of the presentation includes a brief overview of the Croatian children's war prose and the appropriate examples, within which it will discussed the approach to Christian motifs. Christian motifs in Croatian children's literature indicate Christian continuity, which implies the importance of Christianity in the overall cultural, spiritual and literary life of the Croatian people. By analyzing the contemporary children's prose about the Homeland War, we can draw the following conclusions: (1) Christian rootedness in Croatian culture and (children's) literature, (2) the role / significance of Christian symbolism and iconography in overcoming the war tragedy, (3) the power of Christian philosophy, especially recognizable in the commandment of love, and the concept of forgiveness and personal freedom of choice in overcoming evil.
