Sažetak
Our Mind & Brain INPC Congress started when neuropsychiatry was a unique discipline, then following the processes of emancipation of neurology and psychiatry and their evolution to independent disciplines with new subspecialties. These respectable conferences greatly surpassed the significance of the two disciplines, granting collaboration of borderland medical and non-medical disciplines, connecting experts from the region, European countries and the world. For many years, the meetings cherished specific neurologic and psychiatric topics, at the same time planning increasing important topics of the ‘borderland areas’ in their programs, important for humanistic goals of medicine. Medicine, as a science and practice, although founded on biological grounds, is primarily a human activity serving to individual man and the whole humanity. Modern neurology and psychiatry are no longer restricted to diagnosing and curing brain and nerves or psychiatric disorders and are nowadays important as a science of human mind and discipline caring about the human brain, the complex organ of each individual man, collective human consciousness, and our mental life, promoting a new, complex interdisciplinary approach to mind and brain and their multiple connectedness based upon modern scientific research. Our Mind & Brain Congress was founded 60 years ago as a small gathering of colleagues with a special interest in brain diseases. From that time onward, it was intensively developing - always being international, interdisciplinary, focused on recent knowledge, spreading it among participants from all over the world on the path on what was the founding idea of “Pula School of Sciences and Humanity.” We deeply regret that our Honorary President and longstanding “living soul” of our congress, professor Boško Barac is not any more with us, as he passed away last June, but we will continue going on with respect and sincere gratitude to him and to all other our predecessors upon the basis of their endeavors. And today, with emerging a new discipline Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology and its translation to clinical practice, our long-standing comprehensive approach to the interrelation and bridging of the mind and the brain could contribute to a better understanding of this challenging topic.
