Sažetak
The Neolithic and Eneolithic of the continental Croatia have been extensively researched since the latter part of the 19th century. However, compared to the neighbouring countries, relatively little is known about the subsistence economies of the contemporary populations inhabiting the interfluve of the Sava, Drava and Danube rivers. Such poor state of research hinders any attempts at answering questions regarding chronological changes in taxonomical composition, potential variations in the ways animals were used at different sites and different times, and so on. Therefore, the analysis of animal bone and teeth assemblages from several sites in the Osijek-Baranja County may serve as a foundation for reconstructing the continuous model of prehistoric subsistence strategies in the eastern Slavonia. The study aims to provide more information on the exploitation of animals at Neolithic and Eneolithic sites in eastern Croatia, the complexity of animal husbandry and the degree of impact of domestic and wild taxa in the population’s diet, while also regarding the subsistence strategies of the analysed sites as part of a larger network in the northern Balkan Peninsula and the Pannonian Basin.
