Sažetak
Today, almost all information is easy to access, and many projects depend heavily on reliable and consistent spatial data that enables quality data analysis to aid decision-making in many disciplines and the private sector. In addition to Earth, spatial data are increasingly being collected through space observations of other celestial bodies. The rapid development of space technology and the increased interest in space exploration have resulted in the intensifying of observation of celestial bodies, mostly in the solar system, over the past decade with the prospect of an upward trend in the future. Planetary science is one of the fastest growing scientific disciplines today (Hunter 2019), and the large amount of data that has been collected in last 15 years does not make it easy to use. On the one hand, it is challenging to find and access databases that are distributed in various agencies and on web portals (Li et all 2016), and on the other hand, there is a great redundancy of data where money and human resources are spent on collecting and maintaining duplicate data (Maguire and Longley 2005). Large amounts of collected data on space bodies, impose the need to develop the spatial data infrastructure of celestial bodies (SDICB) at the general level to enable standardized organization and storage of these data, and their efficient use and exchange. Data collected by space research are of particular interest because their interpretation provides a better understanding of the Solar system and the Earth and provides answers to important questions such as the impact of global warming (Breuer et all 2009) and contributes to the development of science in general in terms of new technologies, engineering, etc. (US Congress 2011). The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) currently has 2 petabytes of space research data, and large amounts of data are archived each year in various archives that are not suitable for immediate use, especially by non-planetary scientists (MAPSIT Team 2019). The primary purpose of these archives was to provide long-term data storage for planetary scientists and their research and increasing the number of missions increased the number of scientists, especially scientists from other fields, and the general public wishing to access this data. The collection and distribution of space data faces several challenges today, and the most important is the standardization of data storage methods, which is crucial for accurate and precise analysis and scientific research (Laura et all 2018). The data stored in the archives is available to everyone, in full extent, but there is still the problem of visibility, availability, understanding and interpretation of data as well as users' expectations for interactive services to help them research, discover, sort, and visualize data before downloading (Borden and Bishop 2019, Hare et all 2018). Therefore, the main goal is to develop standards that would enable interoperability and data exchange between different communities. It is necessary to create archives that will satisfy users and that will be easy to find, share and interpret. To approach the development of SDISB, it is necessary to investigate what data, how and to what extent, are collected through the space observation and how this data can be obtained. This paper provides a detailed overview of current archives of space data and their shortcomings and examines the possibility of modeling the establishment of SDISB based on current methods of archiving planetary data using international spatial data standards and open-source technologies to make planetary data more accessible to the wider public.
