Sažetak
Critical wetting potentials of a dropping mercury electrode immersed in aqueous dispersion of organic liquids' represent well- defined and characteristic value, that might offer predictions of interpolative nature for interactions of organic particles in the aquatic environment and a framework for investigation of fast wetting transients. The polarographic method is based on measurement of charging current caused displacement of surface charge due to attachment and spreading of organic droplets (micromcter size range) at the aqueous-mercury interface. Dispersion of n-alkanes (C7-C16) in 0.1 M NaF aqueous solution was used as a model system. Excellent agreement was obtained between critical interfacial tensions of wetting electrochemical from critical potentials and prediction based on the Good-Girifalco-Fowkes equation for mercury-water n-alkane system. Identical values of critical interfacial tension were obtained at positively and negatively charged mercury interface. Experiment with dispersion of squalene in 0.1 M solutiun of fluoride, bromide, iodide showed that critical interfacial tension of wetting depends on specific adsorption of anions. Specifically adsorbed anions render the displacement interaction more difficult. Critical interfacial tension of wetting at positively charged mercury interface increases in sequence F<Br<I.
