Sažetak
Aim: To determine the degree of conversion (DC) of two commercial composite materials (SDR/Dentsply and Filtek Bulk Fill/3M ESPE) and to monitor the long-term postcure increase of DC up to 7 days. Materials and methods: DC was determined by Raman spectroscopy at two measuring depths: 1 mm and 4 mm. For each material and each depth, 6 samples were prepared. The cylindrical samples with a 3 mm diameter and 6 mm height were light cured with irradiance of 1090 mW/cm2 for 20 s. DC was measured immediately after curing (0 days), 1 day post-cure and 7 days post-cure. During preparation and storage, the samples were kept at room temperature. Statistical analysis was performed using a dependent samples t-test. Results: DC values (%) for Filtek Bulk Fill amounted to (0 days/1 day/7 days): 56.8/65.8/ 70.5 at 1 mm depth and 44.4/54.4/54.4 at 4 mm depth. DC values of SDR amounted to 55.8/ 68.5/74.2 at 1 mm depth and 49.7/64.5/70.7 at 4 mm depth. Statistically significant DC increase was observed for Filtek Bulk Fill after 1 day and 7 days at 1 mm depth, while at 4 mm depth no further DC increase was observed after 1 day. For SDR, a trend of DC increase was observed at both depths, being marginally significant only at 4 mm depth. Conclusion: Filtek Bulk Fill and SDR presented a considerable post-cure increase of DC that can be followed up to 7 days. This suggests that mechanical properties and biocompatibility are not attained immediately after curing, but develop continuously over time. The study was supported by CSF programme (08/31).
