Sažetak
Producers in organic livestock production tend to increasingly use alternative environmentally friendly and effective preparations for the treatment of animals that do not have a withdrawal period. The ethnoveterinary pharmacopoeia may include herbs, animals or animal-derived products and minerals. Very often prescriptions for a particular folk veterinary drug have not been scientifically tested, so the toxicity, safety of use, dosage, method of preparation, side effects and other very important facts that would justify the use of such a drug are not known. More efforts are needed in clinical trials, validation of certain folk remedies and the establishment of veterinary phytotherapy as an adequate replacement for some veterinary medicinal products that are not approved or desirable in organic livestock production. There is an urgent need to preserve the values of folk remedies and to record data on ethnoveterinary experiences in countries and regions where this has not been done.
