Sažetak
As an invited lecturer to the University of Cincinnati (Ohio, US), our task was to present a lecture about romanticism. As an example, we chose André Gide and his early autobiographical - autofictional writings from the end of the 19th century to depict the French tradition of the same era. In order to present the multiple influences of French and German romanticism and its theories, we tried also to emphasise the willingness of the young writer to embrace any kind of new possibility of writing after Mallarmé, and the openness of this whole generation to create a new way of writing, theoretical and novelistic, philosophical and poetic.
